王艳，博士、研究员，博士生导师。多年来一直从事藻类生理生态学和海洋环境科学研究。近年来已主持国家自然科学基金5项、973项目子课题、国家基金重大项目子课题、国家自然科学基金-广东省联合基金重点项目子项目、广东省自然科学基金、广东省科技计划项目、广东省教育厅重点项目、广州市科技计划项目等10余项；近年来的主要研究方向为我国沿海赤潮高发区的典型和重要有害藻类的分类和生活史、生理生态特性、种群动态分布及生物多样性，在上述项目和研究工作中取得了一些重要的研究结果。已在国内外重要学术刊物：Cell Research，Geophysical Research Letter，Scientific Reports，Planta，Photochemical & Photobiological Sciences，Toxicology Letters，Physiologia Plantarum，Journal of Systematics & Evolution，European Journal of Phycology，Plant Signaling & Behavior，Aquatic Biology，Journal of Sea Research，等期刊发表SCI收录论文30余篇。出版专著《中国沿海赤潮》，担任编委并参与其中4章内容的撰写。参与主编《南中国海红潮的关键研究》。科研成果“中国沿海典型增养殖区有害赤潮发生动力学及防治机理研究”获教育部2002年度自然科学奖一等奖（第八完成人）。论文“Subtle biological responses to increased CO₂ concentrations by Phaeocystis globosa Scherffel, a harmful algal bloom species”获得第二届中国藻类学研究优秀论文三等奖。
